Coon Hill Cemetery was vandalized. This was a tragedy for all of us that visited the cemetery for its history as well as for its ghosts. Coon Hill is a legendary cemetery here in the South and thanks to the vandals, it has been blocked from access by most everyone.

UPDATE ON COON HILL: 1 FEB 2011

Yes, I am still keeping up with my old haunt, (pardon the pun), and unfortunately at this time, there is really no access allowed for this cemetery. The State of Florida and the UWF Archaeological Society has taken over the renovation and restoration of the cemetery.
As I get further information I will try and post it as soon as possible. Thank you for your visits to my site and all the wonderful emails I receive from you!

Coon Hill Vandalism: 11 JULY 2007

 

The last that we had on info was when the Coon Hill Cemetery had received over $50,000 in damage from vandals destroying the historic headstones and to date all visits to the cemetery have been halted.

 The caretaker of the cemetery has stated there is a reward for information leading to the arrests of the vandals.

 

He has received help with some of the funds from individuals and offers of helping to repair the damaged stones.There have been some committees meeting and planning a restoration of the cemetery.

 

We can hope that soon the damage will be rectified.


Update on the Cemetery: 22 AUG 2006

At this reporting there were several arrests made and the SRCSO has added Coon Hill Cemetery to their regular patrol route and there will be questions asked if they have a problem with the persons hanging around in the cemetery!

 

 

 

Update on the Cemetery: 10 JUN 2006

 

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE AT COON HILL CEMETERY BEFORE NIGHTFALL ON SATURDAY, 10JUN06 AND WE DISCOVERED TRASH EVERYWHERE AND UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION WE REALIZED THE TRASH WAS LOCATED  INSIDE THE WALLS, AS WELL (ie: BROKEN BEER BOTTLES AND SCATTERED TRASH FROM A TORN UP COOLER) THE BROKEN BOTTLES WERE AGAINST THE WALL AND ON TOP OF THE GRAVES...

 

ALSO THERE HAS BEEN MASSIVE VANDALISM TO AT LEAST 12 OF THE GRAVES THERE!!!! THE LARGEST ONE IN THE CENTER OF THE CEMETERY FOR SALLIE WILLIAMS HAS BEEN ACTUALLY CRACKED OPEN AND DUG INTO!!!

OTHER HEADSTONES WERE CRACKED AND TOPPLED OVER, AND SOMEONE HAS ACTUALLY TAKEN ONE OF THE STONE VASES FROM THE SECOND ROW OF THE GRAVES CLOSEST TO THE REAR GATE ACROSS FROM THE FRONT ENTRANCE!


WE IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AND A CRIME UNIT WAS DEPLOYED TO THE SITE AND I CAN SAY THAT EVIDENCE HAS BEEN COLLECTED AND HOPEFULLY THERE WILL BE ARRESTS MADE WITHIN THE WEEK!!!!
